Your entry door is the single piece of the home that works the hardest. It takes every storm the weather has, every package the couriers bring, and every first impression every visitor forms. Here is how we think about specifying exterior doors in the actual climates of BC.

The three BC climates

Mild coastal (Metro Vancouver, Victoria) — moderate rain, real wind, mild temperatures year-round. Most common exposure we build for.

Wet coastal (Sea-to-Sky, Tofino, Haida Gwaii) — severe wind-driven rain, significant overhang or vestibule essential.

Interior continental (Okanagan, Kootenays) — cold winters, hot summers, lower humidity. Thermal detailing matters more than rain sealing.

Door types we recommend

  • Hinged multipoint steel entry — our workhorse exterior. Reliable sealing, strong security, wide finish options. $6,800–$14,000 installed.
  • Concealed pivot entry — statement-scale, requires architectural overhang. $14,000–$22,000 installed.
  • Wood or woodgrain-laminated steel entry — for transitional or character homes. Warm material, excellent cold-climate performance.

Finish and hardware for exterior

Exterior-grade powder-coat, not interior formula. 316 stainless hardware within 200m of the ocean. Emtek Stretto Multipoint as the default lock family. Thermally broken frame on any door in a conditioned envelope.

Warranty

Our standard exterior warranty is 10 years structural, 15 years finish (marine-grade), 5 years hardware. These numbers extend to 15/20 on projects that come through our architect trade program with specified marine-grade finishes.
